MATT DELUCA
5th Grade Teacher
Matt DeLuca has been a proud Mineola teacher for 24 years. After receiving a BA in Theatre from The College of William and Mary, Matt spent several years acting and directing. Eventually, he came to realize that his deeper lifelong dream was to become a teacher, so he obtained a Master's Degree from Bank Street College of Education.
The following September Matt found himself happily ensconced in a 2nd grade classroom in Mineola with 24 amazing 7-year-olds (who are now 30). After five more years in 2nd grade Matt became a 5th grade teacher, ultimately specializing in math and science.
Presently, Matt is delighted to be drawing on both of his degrees as he spends his days teaching drama to 6th graders and providing math support for 5th graders.
Over the years, in addition to his work as a classroom teacher, Matt has served as a district APPR representative, a Union representative, a Classroom Walk-Through initiative leader, a peer mentor to teachers new to the field and as a Math Olympiads advisor.
After school Matt directs the Mineola High School fall play and spring musical. In addition, Matt directs the Mineola Middle School musical, whose participation over the past 14 years has grown from 65 students to over 280 and serves as a shining example of a community of colleagues, students and parents working together passionately towards a common goal.
