Implementing Growth Mindset at a building or district wide scale is no small undertaking. It requires coordination, experience, and most of all: motivated educators.

When Mineola decided it was ready for this challenge it was due to years of work creating trust and communication among staff and fostering an environment of innovation. A bit of a renegade attitude doesn’t hurt either…

These clips highlight the early discussions necessary to prepare for a year of massive changes and growth.

First Step

All great journey’s begin the same way. In this clip, administration members discuss how they prepared for the beginning of a long year and teachers explain when they realized Growth Mindset wasn’t just a “flavor of the month.”

Identifying our Fixed Mindsets

Before leading students on a journey to a Growth Mindset, it’s important to be able to recognize fixed mindsets in ourselves. In this clip, teachers explore times when they had fixed mindsets and how they learned to grow.

As much as talent counts, effort counts twice. Talent times effort equals skill. Skill times effort equals achievement.

First Professional Development

A key to successful implementation is professional development. Instructional Leaders in Mineola used PD sessions to create a collegiate environment where teachers could share best practices, growing pains, and surprising discoveries.
